we started the process of selecting our team for the 2018 usa games back in 2016. after numerous trainings and many personal records, we took 101 delegates to seattle to compete on the national stage.

While we announced the team in july 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed watching their reactions shortly thereafter, promotion for the team didn’t really get going until early 2018. you’ll find stories below that highlight the trials and tribulations our athletes, families and coaches went through to get to this stage, but we felt it was just important to have fun promoting the team. As the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games draw near, we are excited to unveil our Team Missouri uniforms. Our delegates sure loved them and we hope you do too! Do we look ready to take over Seattle or what?

For the first time in our history, we took an athlete-leader to a usa games. allison d’agostino of columbia was selected from five applicants to attend the usa games as part of the communications team. she wrote stories, took pictures, filmed and edited videos & more before, during, and after the games. see below for examples of her work.

Allison D’Agostino, Special Olympics Missouri athlete-leader and PR assistant for Team Missouri at the 2018 USA Games, caught up with SOMO volunteer Audrey Verret who spent a week in Seattle volunteering at the Games.

Athlete-leader and PR Assistant Allison D 'Agostino hosted her second late night Team Missouri recap show at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. In this show, she talks about meeting a volunteer at track and field who grew up in St. Joseph and then she brings on coach Amy Wurst and Jessica Grammer from swimming and Jesse Hodgson and coach Michelle Howell from track and field.

Athlete-leader and PR Assistant Allison D 'Agostino hosted her fifth and FINAL late night Team Missouri recap show at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. In this show, she talks about attending Healthy Athletes and Closing Ceremony. She then interviewed athletes and coaches from golf, powerlifting, softball and tennis.
